Often we create our own deafness and then grow so familiar with our deafness that the thought of hearing becomes frightening.
(Gentle Wisdom for a Complicated World by Jacob the Baker)
For a long time I searched for books that would take me deeper into
intimacy with Jesus. Books that would teach me new things about the
relationship, that would show me how to go deeper, and that would tell
me other’s experiences with Jesus as their Bridegroom. I was desperate
to share stories and learn from people who were experiencing what I was.
What I found, though, was that there weren’t any. There are a few books
that tell of the bridegroom/bride relationship between us and Jesus, but
they’re fairly generic, and while the books are about our relationship
to Jesus as our Bridegroom, all the examples given are between a husband
and wife. Being married, I know those examples. I don’t need to read a
book of what a relationship looks like between spouses as a picture of
our relationship with Jesus, I want to know what it looks like between
them and Jesus.
Eventually I sat down and wrote the book that I couldn’t find. You’ll find more information about my book and excerpts from it under The Wild Romancer.
I was desperate to learn and experience a deeper walk, but I couldn’t
find others who were in this kind of relationship with Jesus. I began to
plead with Jesus to connect me with others that understand this
relationship so we can learn from, support, and encourage each other.
One Sunday evening I was finishing up the dishes when my phone rang, and
a woman asked if I was the one who had written the book
The Wild Romancer, and where
could she buy a copy? I was astounded, as the book had not yet been
published. How did a woman in Enterprise, Alabama hear about my book?
She proceeded to tell me a wonderful story. Jesus had recently begun to
pursue her, to woo her into a bridegroom/bride relationship that was
more wonderful than anything she had ever dreamed possible, but she was
hesitant about the experience, having never heard of such a thing. Every
Christian knows that the church is the bride of Christ, but to have
Jesus come and personally woo her into that relationship was outside
anything she had experienced before.
She was hungry to talk to someone who had had the same experience. In
desperation, thinking that there had to be someone out there who had
experienced Jesus in this way, she got on the internet and began to
search for something about an intimate relationship with Jesus.
Meanwhile, I had attempted to get my book before a publisher by posting
excerpts from it on a writer’s website, giving me exposure to various
Christian publishers.
Finally, in her search for someone else who could tell her about what
had happened to her, she Googled
bedchamber + Holy Spirit, and it pulled up the excerpts from my
book. She had excitedly taken down my contact information and called me.
We talked for three hours that night, and have been friends ever since.
This website is not only a place to make my book available to women who
are seeking to know Jesus as their Bridegroom, but a place for women to
discover how to enter into that relationship and to share their
experiences with others.
I love speaking to women’s groups, so if you are interested in hosting a
wonderful time together talking about Jesus as our Bridegroom,
free to email me your experiences and questions, I would
love to hear from you.
