BRENDA COBB MURPHY

A Lover of Jesus

We first learn to see God as Provider, after all he has all power over our circumstances while we have little. He has everything, we lack. How can God NOT be about petition? But by getting to know him we change that mindset. He becomes more than the supplier, he becomes our friend. And before we know it we don’t need to ask as much, because we trust him to already know our heart. We find that he’s fun to be with. We see that his love is so much bigger than our desires and needs. And suddenly they don’t matter as much as they did. I guess it’s a matter of friendship and trust, which is so much bigger than what we’ve ever known before.

PREFACE to The Wild Romancer:

It lay beside me on the seat as I drove home and I had a hard time keeping my eyes off it. This book promised to talk about passion and intimacy with our Bridegroom Lover, Jesus. I was looking forward to reading something that would expand my “Kingdom Catalog” of the wonderful things He has for me and be a manual on how to grow deeper in intimacy with Him. I was also interested in hearing of other’s experiences in this relationship.

Once home, with supper out of the way and everyone settled for the evening I sat down, put my feet up, and began to read. Chapter by chapter my heart sank. It was a great book that provided new insights and perspectives, but it was not about passion and intimacy with Jesus.

It seems that the books I want to read are rare, possibly because there are few people who have experienced this kind of love, but more, I suspect, because this is a very personal relationship and those who have tasted and seen that the Lord is good keep it to themselves.

When I complained to my husband about my disappointment he told me, “There are good books out there on intimacy, but what you want is a bedroom book.” That casual comment stuck with me. He was right. That was exactly what I wanted. After mulling on that for a while I came to the conclusion that the only thing left for me to do was to write the book myself.

I am torn between putting such personal experiences and feelings on paper for everyone to see and my strong desire to show the bride of Christ that her Bridegroom loves her. This relationship between us is not some formal, legal union, or something that is to be reserved for “the other side.” Jesus wants a bride that knows Him intimately, who will fling herself into His embrace with joyful abandon and throw her arms around His neck.

I want each bride to see that she can have true love and intimacy while still here on earth. I have seen Him, held Him, felt Him, eaten with Him, and laughed with Him, but it is never enough. I attempt to share some of it with you so that I can show you what is possible in Him and how He desires you.

This book shows how Jesus calls us out of our mundane lives into a living Romance, the Love Story to end all love stories. He is gently wooing us, singing love songs to us, and whispering our name. Reading this book serves three purposes:

  • It will expand your “Kingdom Catalog” of the incredible things God has for you, specifically in a bridegroom/bride relationship.

  • It is a manual on growing deeper in intimacy with Jesus.

  • It serves as a model of what you are learning by its generous sprinkling of examples and experiences.

Reading this book will help you welcome Holy Spirit’s tutoring, for only through Him can you go deeper in love and enter into the King’s bedchamber. Once there, earthly things lose their appeal because your heart is held in the hands of your Beloved.

Wherever you go and whatever you do, your eyes are locked on His. Your heart sings your Beloved’s name. Anywhere or anytime, you can close your eyes and be lost in Jesus. You can run with Him on the spice-laden mountains, dance in His arms to His love songs, and be His hands to the hurting and broken. You can taste of His love in His inner chamber and walk with Him in His secret place. You will enjoy His garden of delights and find His fruit sweet to your taste.

This book should move you to hunger for more love, more adventure, and most of all, more of the presence of the Wild Romancer.

God doesn't decree, He desires.

What Others Say, cont.:

Highly Recommended (Barnes & Noble)

“This book has shown me that I can have a deeper and more personal relationship with Jesus than I ever thought possible before. Since reading this book I've been able to experience a taste of what the author describes and I look forward to going even further. If you want to experience a truly personal relationship with Jesus this book will help you get there. It has helped me look for and experience Jesus not just in my prayer times, but wherever I'm at throughout the day. It has stretched my thinking beyond what I thought what my relationship "should" look like to a place that is much more intimate than I would have dared to imagine before.”

"I am reading the wild romancer (you are sending me the journey guide). Your love for Jesus is something I am really reaching out for. I don't know Him like you do yet but it stirs something deep in my spirit. I want to give Him the space and the time in my life so I can really know Him face to face right now, not just as an act of faith. Blessings," Paul (Ireland)

"Some authors write nice books on their theories. Some authors write nice books on their doctrines. Brenda is clearly writing her book on experiential knowledge. The more I read, the hungrier I got to know more my Wild Romancer more than ever! Brenda-we want a sequel!"

"Your book is definitely something never written before and I'm happy you found the courage to come up with it. So far I haven't read systematically, more like here and there but now I intend to go from all the beginning so there's not one part I'm missing. :) I already love it!!"

"Brenda's book opened up a journey to Jesus like I've never experienced.  I didn't know I could be in His presence spending time smiling into His eyes.  I've learned how to seek Him and know Him beyond knowing about Him.  I want Brenda to use this book to teach 'Jesus Seeking' seminars and I want to be in her first class."

"If you are a Christian man and want to experience more adventure and excitement in your life,  then read this book. If you have ever felt God's presence come upon you and you are hungry for more of him, then read this book. If you are tired of the same old routines, and think there has got to be a better way, then read this book. You can wait until you get to heaven to experience a real exciting friendship with Jesus, or you can read this book and see that it is possible to experience heaven on earth today."

"It’s like going through the wardrobe into Narnia, you’re talking about a whole different world."

"Your book came at just the right time. I was feeling a need for something to feed me spiritually. As I got more into it I knew it was the jewel I was wanting."

Fanny S.

"Kaye and I read your chapter on "pictures of men.” It hit home, we all have idols and distractions that rob us of intimacy with God. I know I do. Your book made me come away desiring a closer walk."

Pat P., pastor

"If you are interested in a deeper relationship with Jesus, this book will be helpful. The author takes you along on her own journey to experiencing intimacy with her Bridegroom, Jesus. I appreciate her use of scripture throughout, including passages from Song of Solomon and other marriage passages. One of my all-time favorites is used as well, the story of Esther. The author elaborates on the roles of King Xerxes (Bridegroom Jesus), Esther (Bride) and Hegai (Holy Spirit) in the king's search for a bride and Esther's preparation with the assistance of Hegai. The author also uses many personal experiences to show what intimacy with our Bridegroom might look like. Does your journey to intimacy have to look the same? No. We are all individuals with unique characteristics, personalities, gifts, talents and interests. Our relationships with our Bridegroom will reflect that uniqueness. This book, however, can open your heart and spirit to what more awaits you on your own journey. Very well worth reading."
